The idea for Family Trees wasn't mine. Credit for that is due to Pete Frame, whose diagrammatic histories of the ebbs, flows and cross-currents of musicians moving from band to band has been of enduring fascination for many years. The concept of tracing people and companies within the music industry using a literary version of Pete Frame's concept was first raised by Gez Kahan, publisher and editor of the UK's musical instrument industry trade journal, MI Pro and, as a consequence, I have been producing monthly episodes for the past few years, for MI Pro and Audio Pro.

Most of these will be of little interest to readers outside the fairly tight confines of the UK's musical instrument industry - but a few might be, which is why I have included them here.
